A skylight turns a dark corridor, stairwell, kitchen or atrium into a daylit space. The glass has to do more than look good: it is overhead, so it must fail safe, and it is on the roof, so it must not leak. Both come down to the glass specification and the frame detailing.
We use laminated or laminated toughened glass for every overhead installation, with solar control or tinted options where heat gain and glare need managing. The frame is thermally and structurally designed for the span, with drainage channels, proper falls and sealed upstands so that rain runs off rather than in.
Skylight leaks are almost always a detailing and installation problem, not a glass problem. The interface between the frame and the roof is where they start, which is why our own crews install and seal every skylight we make.
